The Centre for European Transformation (CfET) is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Rintamäki as Assistant Professor of Finance. Since September 2025, he has also held the DWS Junior Chair in Finance, supporting the Centre’s mission of delivering research-based insights into Europe’s transformation and sustainable growth.
Professor Rintamäki’s research explores how different types of financial intermediaries–such as banks and nonbank lenders–respond to monetary policy changes and provide credit to the economy. He is particularly interested in the mechanisms through which financial institutions foster innovation, investment, and long-term value creation. By combining large-scale datasets with economic theory and institutional expertise, his work provides new perspectives on the role of private capital in building resilient financial systems.
He holds a D.Sc. in Finance from the Aalto University School of Business. Before joining Frankfurt School, Professor Rintamäki was a Visiting Researcher at Columbia Business School and Imperial College Business School, among others. His work has appeared in leading journals, including the Journal of Finance and the Annual Review of Financial Economics. In addition, he gained practical experience at Nordea and the Boston Consulting Group prior to his academic career.
With his appointment, CfET continues to strengthen its expertise at the intersection of academic research and real-world challenges, while fostering dialogue among scholars, policymakers, and financial practitioners.
